Ear protection in 2000 can be compared to skin protection back in the 1970's.

Remember when the only options for skin protection were zinc oxide and tanning oil? Not much was known about the long-term affect of sun overexposure in the 70's. Those seeking protection found few effective commercial products. Tanning oils offered almost no protection and zinc oxide was so conspicuous & tended to smear. Most people opted to do nothing, and many of us now pay the price with melanoma's and premature aging.
