Hi
Scott-
Thanks
for sending along the information on the SurfMuff®... I
was checking the links from your site, and it sounds like (some
doctors) are pushing the drilling technique via an incision
behind the ear. My approach to these severely closed ears is
to use a chisel technique via the ear canal which: 1) avoids
the incision behind the ear; 2) avoids inflicting the noise
of a drill (up to 125 dB); 3) makes it much easier to preserve
ear canal skin, thereby avoiding the need for skin grafts; 4)
avoids generating bone dust which may promote regrowth of bone
in the ear canal; 5) allows fairly rapid healing with my patients
typically healed and back in the water in 3-4 weeks. ... Obviously,
prevention of the growths in the first place is the optimal
solution and Ill let my surfers know about the SurfMuff®
if they dont already. Thanks for sending the information

Hey
Scott...
I
wore the SurfMuff® yesterday -- for some hands-on inspiration.
The fit is surprising. It stays on through white-water washings,
offers good hearing and is surprisingly comfortable (especially
once its wet). I think you did a good job. It was well thought
out and surprised me.

I
recently purchased the SurfMuff® for my husband and myself
as an alternative to ear plugs (which don't seem to work well
and block out essential sound). My husband just had two major
surgeries to remove bony exostoses in both ears that had developed
from years of surfing in cold, windy conditions with unprotected
ears. His ears were over 90% closed.... My ears are 40% closed
and I don't want them to get worse. So, I found the SurfMuff®
online and ordered it. I took it in to show our E.N.T. doctor
and he said it looks like the best thing he has seen to prevent
the bony growths from forming. Our doctor doesn't feel that
plugs are a good option anyway unless they are custom-made.
I've been recommending the SurfMuff® to my surfing friends.
I've noticed that it works well on windy days in keeping the
head warm, and, in effect, warming the whole body. That means
more water time, which is good. Thanks for inventing the SurfMuff®.
It could help save a lot of ears!

I
am a true dawn patrol local at Church and Middles, so it's a
really good test for it (SurfMuff®). I think it's great
for in between true hood weather which isn't that common here.
... Overall though, everyone thinks it's a cool idea. By the
way, I had the exact same idea about 10 years ago, but never
followed up on it. Works just as well as I thought it would...Warm
ears and hearing too. That's a good thing.
Ron (SoCal)
Great
product, I hate wearing full head gear, your SurfMuff® is
much more comfortable. Couple of my dawn patrol buddies were
checking it out, I'll send them your way via the website. You
retailing it anywhere?
Mark (NorCal)
I
don't surf , but I do run and bike out in the cold, and I do
triathlons, too. I always hate it when I get water in my ears!
Thanks for a great product!

The
muffs work great. Water temp is 52 degrees in NJ and dropping
like a rock. I had an ear operation already so I'm going to
use these under my 543 w/hood. Way better than ear plugs. Good
job.
Thanks, Fred (New Jersey)
My
SurfMuff® is working great! Beacon's was choppy yesterday
and I got worked, but my 'Muff held up like a champ the whole
time. Wish I could say the same for myself. The water has been
cold enough for my 4/3 suit, and the SurfMuff® is still
keeping my head warm. Plus it gives me more peripheral vision
and flexibility than a hood, and it is soooo much more comfortable
than my ear plugs. Such a great product-my ears thank you.
Shannon (SoCal)
I
finally received the 3 muffs. Thank you for being so extremely
customer oriented by keeping me up to date on the status of
my order and then throwing in a third muff was very considerate.
I showed it to a business rep and she wants to order one! My
main problem is a bit of a breeze can feel like an ice pick
to my eardrum - I'll keep ya posted.
Marcy (Central Coast).
I
am wearing the SurfMuff® as I sit here writing this email.
It is really comfortable, which at first glance you feel like
"know way will this fit right". I personally could
never wear earplugs because they never felt right. I think you
have done an excellent job in design.
Chuck (Wetsand)
I
finally tried out the SurfMuff® and it worked great! There
was a wind and I stayed in the ocean as long as I wanted because
my ears never started to hurt. Thank you. I also like the complete
comfort of the SurfMuff®, thank you for producing such a
great product! Good luck.
Marcy (Central Coast)
Just
to let you know, I had heard of your product through word of
mouth, and have been asking numerous surf/swim shops if they
knew what I was talking about. I think you have an excellent
product, and think it would do very well commercially.

Hey
Scott,
I
wore it last weekend and liked it. The only thing was that it
did slip over my eyes a couple times when duckdiving.... (note:
this is a common problem for new users - Solution: a) tighten
after you're in the line-up, b) position band higher on forehead
near hairline, & c) modify head angle during duckdives so
that band hits water first). I liked it though as it kept my
ears warm and it was super windy on Sunday too. Made it so I
was able to stay out longer because my ears weren't bothering
me.
JB (San Diego)
We
use them (SurfMuffs®) to ride our jet ski. The water here
is usually very cold. The water spray from the jet ski hits
you right in the face so you turn your head and it goes right
into your ear. Everyone should have these if they ride a jet
ski. Your ad was great, I had no idea about the ear damage you
could get from the cold water." Thanks!
Cindy (Wyoming)
Yes,
I did receive my SurfMuffs®. I am totally satisfied with
the performance. Here in the North Gulf Coast, winter winds
are often from the North as they were yesterday when I did the
earmuff test in chest high conditions...with wind chill in the
mid 30's. My ears stayed warm and without earache. Wow. I love
em. I have recommended them to several outdoor sports people
I know.... It's a great product. I'm stoked. Thanks.
